Global crude steel output has been declining year-on-year for three consecutive years

According to the statistics of the World Steel Association, in 2019, global crude steel production reached 1.869 billion tons, a year-on-year increase of 3.4%, and the year-on-year growth rate has declined for three consecutive years. In 2019, except Asia and the Middle East, crude steel output in all other regions declined year-on-year.


In terms of countries, the top 10 countries producing steel are China, India, Japan, the United States, Russia, South Korea, Germany, Turkey, Brazil and Iran. Compared with 2018, among the top 10 steel-producing countries, South Korea surpassed Russia to enter the top 5 steel-producing countries.


From the perspective of the Asian region, in 2019, Asian crude steel production was 1,341.6 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 5.7%. Among them, China's crude steel output was 996.3 million tons, an increase of 8.3% year-on-year, and its share of global crude steel output increased from 50.9% in 2018 to 53.3% in 2019; India's crude steel output was 111.2 million tons, an increase from the same period last year 1.8%; Japan ’s crude steel output was 99.3 million tons, down 4.8% year-on-year; South Korea ’s crude steel output was 71.4 million tons, down 1.4% year-on-year.


From the EU region, the EU's crude steel production in 2019 was 159.4 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 4.9%. Among them, crude steel production in Germany was 39.7 million tons, down 6.5% year-on-year; Italy's crude steel output was 23.2 million tons, down 5.2% year-on-year; French crude steel output was 14.5 million tons, down 6.1% year-on-year; Spain's crude steel output Steel output was 13.6 million tons, down 5.2% year-on-year.


In 2019, North American crude steel production was 120 million tons, down 0.8% year-on-year, of which the U.S. crude steel output in 2019 was 87.9 million tons, up 1.5% year-on-year. Crude steel production in the CIS countries in 2019 was 100.4 million tons, down 0.5% year-on-year. Among them, Russia's crude steel output was 71.6 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 0.7%; Ukraine's crude steel output was 20.8 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 1.2%. The crude steel output in the Middle East was 45.3 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 19.2%. South American crude steel production is 41.2 million tons, down 8.4% year-on-year. Brazil's crude steel output was 32.2 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 9.0%. Turkish crude steel output was 33.7 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 9.6%. Africa's crude steel output was 17 million tons, down 2.3% year-on-year. The crude steel output in Oceania was 6.1 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 2.9%.
