At the Beginning of May, Xinyue have been awarded a new project, which is a directional boring application from our regular construction customer. The main product is LSAW diameter 1300mm with heavy wall thickness 60mm, steel grade is EN10219 S355J0H, about 470 tons in total.

What is directional boring? Directional boring, commonly called horizontal directional drilling or HDD, is a steerable trench less method of installing underground pipe, conduit, or cable in a shallow arc along a prescribed bore path by using a surface-launched drilling rig, with minimal impact on the surrounding road, landscape and river crossings. Pipe can be made of materials such as PVC, Ductile Iron, and steel as long as it can be pulled through the drilled hole. Such directional boring pipes usually need high material large diameter pipe with heavy WT.

Due to this wall thickness 60mm is very thick, almost close to the production limit of wall thickness based on this diameter, at the beginning of the tender, the customer worried so much about welding quality, Xinyue sales team finally won the full trust of customer by introducing our company’s rich experience in supplying such large diameter pipe & heavy WT and professional production equipment & inspection process, as well as submitting professional MPS and ITP by our technical team.

At present, the raw material steel plates are still under production, according to EN10219 standard & ITP, we will test chemical component & mechanical property once raw material arrival. And UT inspection of the welds should also be performed on completed products by TPI with manual device again after all NDT on-line. We believe we will give customers a more perfect answer on time!
